You keep seeing the same advice in parent groups: buy one wool sleep bag and stop juggling TOG ratings every season. The Woolino sleep sack is the bag most of those parents mean. It costs more than a cotton sack, so you want to know if one bag really covers two years, what to dress your baby in underneath, and who should skip it. This page answers that with Woolino’s own specs and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) safe sleep advice.
More on nights and naps: our baby sleep guides.
Quick answer: is the Woolino sleep sack worth it?
It suits parents who want one arms-free sleep bag from about 2 months to 2 years, in a nursery between 63°F and 75°F, and who are happy to wash wool gently. It does not suit babies under 10 lb, a newborn who still settles best swaddled, or a nursery that is often warmer than 75°F.

Which Woolino to buy
Woolino sells three versions of the same merino and cotton bag. The Ultimate comes in one universal baby size with underarm snaps and the travel slot. The Classic has neither and comes in fixed sizes: 0 to 6 months (22 to 27 in, 9 to 18 lb), 6 to 18 months (26 to 33 in, 16 to 27 lb) and 18 to 36 months (32 to 39 in, 25 to 36 lb). The Sleep Bag with Feet has foot openings for walking toddlers and comes in 6 to 18 months, 18 to 36 months and 3 to 4T (37 to 47 in, 32 to 46 lb).
Woolino says not to size up and not to use the bag below the minimum weight. For a toddler, compare the size ranges of several brands in our guide to the sleep sack for toddlers.
What it does well (according to Woolino)
These points are the manufacturer’s own claims, not our findings:
- One bag for the seasons. Woolino says the breathable merino lining helps keep a baby warm when it is cold and cool when it is warm, so you do not need different weights.
- One size for two years. The universal baby size runs from about 2 months to 2 years, with underarm snaps that Woolino says keep the bag from riding up on a small baby.
- Easy night changes. Woolino says the side zipper opens the bag flat and also opens from the bottom for diaper changes.
- Certified materials. Woolino lists OEKO-TEX Standard 100, GOTS organic cotton and Woolmark and RWS wool.
Parents echo the long-use point. In a Mumsnet thread on baby sleeping bags (August 2023), one parent said their Woolino lasted just over two years and was pricey but worth it. That is one parent’s experience, not a test.
Its limits
- No TOG rating. You cannot compare it number for number with TOG-rated sacks. You go by Woolino’s room range and dress your baby underneath. Our sleep sack TOG chart shows what TOG-rated sacks cover at the same temperatures.
- A capped temperature range. Woolino’s FAQ stops at 75°F (the footed version’s page says 77°F). A hot summer nursery is outside that range.
- Not for newborns under 10 lb. The Ultimate starts at about 2 months and 10 lb.
- Wool care. Low-temperature washing and no-heat drying only, and Woolino gives two different maximum wash temperatures.
- Car seat use. Woolino adds a seatbelt slot, but the AAP says bulky clothing should not be worn under car seat harness straps. Follow your car seat manual first.
Safety notes (AAP and CPSC recall check)
- Back to sleep for every sleep, on a firm, flat surface, with no blankets, pillows, toys or bumpers in the crib (AAP). Our safe sleep guide has the full checklist.
- The AAP says a wearable blanket can be used if you are worried about your baby getting cold, and that overheating can increase the risk of SIDS. Dress your baby in one more layer than you would wear in the same room.
- Do not use weighted sleep sacks, swaddles or blankets (AAP).
- Recall check, October 26, 2026: we searched CPSC and news and found no recall of Woolino sleep bags.
- For warning only: in 2017 Woolino recalled its merino footed pajamas (sizes 6 to 12 months up to 2T, sold 2015 to 2017) because they failed the federal flammability standard for children’s sleepwear. That notice covers pajamas, not sleep bags. If you have hand-me-down Woolino pajamas, check it.
Who should pick an alternative
- A newborn, or a baby under 10 lb who is not showing signs of rolling: a swaddle may suit the first weeks better. See our sleep sack vs swaddle guide, and stop swaddling as soon as your baby shows signs of rolling (AAP).
- A warm nursery or a smaller budget: a 0.5 TOG cotton sack such as the HALO SleepSack Wearable Blanket, which also goes in the dryer on low.
- Parents who want clear TOG levels for a cool and a warm season: the Burt’s Bees Beekeeper comes in 0.5 and 1.5 TOG.

Frequently asked questions
Woolino describes the 4 Season Ultimate as a merino wool lining with an organic cotton outer and no synthetic filling, and it is not sold as a weighted sack. The AAP advises against weighted sleep sacks, swaddles and blankets for babies.
Woolino does not give its 4 Season bags a TOG rating. Instead it lists a room range of 63°F to 75°F (17 to 24°C) and says you adjust the layer underneath. Our sleep sack TOG chart helps you compare it with TOG-rated sacks.
Woolino says the merino lining helps keep a baby cool in summer, but its own stated range tops out at 75°F (77°F on the footed version). In a warmer room, a lightweight 0.5 TOG cotton sack and a single thin layer may suit better.
