eufy Baby Monitor E21 review: Wi-Fi or local mode, and what it can’t do

Researched, not hands-on tested. Specs checked on eufy.com, eufy support and Anker’s official store on October 29, 2026. How we research products.

You want a sharp picture of the crib, you are not sure you want your baby’s camera on the internet, and the eufy keeps coming up because it promises both: a parent screen that works without Wi-Fi and an app when you want one. This eufy baby monitor review looks at the eufy Baby Monitor E21 using only eufy’s own specs, so you can see what local mode and Wi-Fi mode really mean, what eufy does not say, and who should pick something else.

Quick answer: is the eufy E21 worth it?

The eufy E21 suits parents who want a portable 4K pan-and-tilt camera, a separate parent screen and the choice to switch Wi-Fi off. It is less suited to you if you want a fully offline monitor with no app at all, breathing data, or a maker that publishes every spec, such as screen size and radio band.

What it does well (according to eufy)

These points are the manufacturer’s own claims, not our findings:

  • A choice about Wi-Fi. With the camera’s Wi-Fi switch off, eufy says the camera connects only to the parent unit. Switch it on when you want the app.
  • A detailed, movable picture. 4K, 330-degree pan, 60-degree tilt and 8x zoom let you check a face or a blanket without walking in.
  • A camera that runs on battery. The 5,000 mAh battery means you can carry the camera to another room for a nap, or keep watching in a power cut, for a few hours.
  • Fewer pointless alerts. Five sensitivity levels and adjustable notification intervals are eufy’s answer to a monitor that beeps at every sigh.
  • Twins or siblings. eufy sells an add-on camera and shows two feeds on one split screen.

Its limits

  • Battery hours are short for a night. eufy’s own figure is about 5.5 hours with night vision, so for overnight use plan on the plug.
  • Range is a claim, not a promise. eufy states 800 feet without conditions. In a Mumsnet thread (May 2021, older eufy model), a parent lost the signal on the patio. That is one parent’s report, not a test.
  • Fewer published specs. eufy’s pages we checked do not list the screen size, the radio band or the warranty term.
  • No breathing data. It hears and sees; it does not track breathing, pulse or oxygen.
  • Recording needs a card. 24/7 recording uses a microSD card; check whether your kit includes one.

Safety notes (AAP, CPSC and recall check)

  • Keep the camera, the stand and every cord at least 3 feet from the crib, never in the crib or on the rail (CPSC). Recheck when your baby starts pulling up to stand.
  • If you use the cradle stand or a mount near the crib, follow eufy’s instructions and make sure nothing can fall into the sleep space.
  • A monitor does not replace safe sleep: back to sleep, a firm flat surface with only a fitted sheet, and room-sharing for at least the first 6 months (AAP). Our safe sleep guide has the full checklist.
  • With Wi-Fi on, use a strong unique password, keep the firmware updated (eufy’s FAQ shows where) and turn on any extra login protection the app offers, as the FTC advises for connected devices.
  • Recall check, October 29, 2026: the CPSC recall database (searched by title and product name for eufy) and news show no recall of eufy baby monitors. For warning only: Babysense Max View parent units were recalled in February 2026 for a fire hazard; that notice does not cover eufy.

Who should pick an alternative

Parents ask the same thing. In the eufy Community (August 2026), a parent weighing the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro against Nanit asked about picture, reliability and night use, and another parent answered that they rely on their eufy camera.

When to talk to your pediatrician

  • Your baby stops breathing, turns blue or gray, or will not wake up: call 911 right away.
  • You notice fast, noisy or labored breathing, or long pauses, on the monitor or in person.
  • Worry about your baby’s sleep or breathing keeps you checking the screen all night.

Frequently asked questions

Does eufy baby monitor need Wi-Fi?

No. eufy says the Baby Monitor E21 works with or without Wi-Fi: with the camera’s Wi-Fi switch off, the camera connects only to the parent unit. You need Wi-Fi only if you want to watch or review recordings in the eufy Baby app.

Does eufy baby monitor record?

Yes. eufy lists 24/7 recording that you can review in the eufy Baby app. Anker’s official store FAQ says the camera takes microSD cards up to 128 GB, Class 10 or higher, for local storage.

Is eufy baby monitor safe?

The CPSC recall database showed no eufy baby monitor recall on October 29, 2026. Keep the camera, stand and cords at least 3 feet from the crib (CPSC). A monitor does not lower the risk of SIDS; safe sleep practices do (AAP).
